Massey
Copper produces fine copper garden art and
hosts workshops taught by Master Coppersmith Walter Massey. Over
the past 30 years, Walter has combined various work experiences,
including aircraft welder and blacksmith shop production
manager, with his undergraduate and graduate studies in psychology,
literature, and art to develop his craft as metal smith and
teacher. Particularly drawn to copper for its flexibility
and versatility, he has developed his own techniques to produce
large metal sculpture and bring that traditionally functional
medium further into the realm of fine art.
Walter's
current passions are teaching the art of copper fabrication
and creating versatile fine garden art panels (primarily in
uniquely organic tree and branch forms) for the architectural
enhancement of garden, home, and workspaces. In addition
to designing and completing commissioned copper sculptural
pieces, he presents art center and craft show demonstrations
of his work
processes.
We welcome
visitors and students alike at our Massey Copper studio in
Port Townsend, Washington, where we conduct our copper sculpture
workshops and display pieces reserved in Walter's private collection. For
now, though, why not wander through our site to learn and see
more?
