Massey Copper produces fine copper art featuring Master Coppersmith Walter Massey.  Over the past 35 years, Walter has combined various work experiences, including aircraft welder and blacksmith shop production manager, with his undergraduate and graduate studies in psychology, literature, and art to develop his unique metal-smithing style.  Particularly drawn to copper for its flexibility and versatility, he has developed his own techniques to produce mid-range garden art as well as large metal sculpture, endeavoring to bring that traditionally functional medium further into the realm of fine art.

Walter's current passions are creating versatile fine art specializing in organic forms of tree and branch and, more recently, creating art panels of Pacific Northwest Salmon for the architectural enhancement of garden, home, and workspaces.

The images in these new salmon panels are literally carved into shape, hand-forged and hand-hammered incorporating the principles of repoussé with the other fabrication techniques Walter has learned and developed over the years.  You will see the same image repeatedly, in multiple pieces, but no two are alike. It is the copper itself that makes this difference, providing a versatility of application that appears to be endless.

In addition to designing and completing commissioned copper sculptural pieces, he presents art center and art show demonstrations of works in progress.

Visitors are welcome to our studio in Port Townsend, Washington.  For now, though, why not wander through our site to learn and see more?
